Lou Bell, MD
Medical Director, Pediatric Research Consortium (PeRC)
Lou joined the medical faculty of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1986 after a three-year fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.. He now serves as the division chief of General Pediatrics at Children's Hospital and as the medical director for the Pediatric Research Consortium (PeRC), the Hospital's practice-based research network established in 2003 with a grant from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). He is a professor of pediatrics at the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Medicine and holds the Patrick S. Pasquariello Jr. Endowed Chair in Pediatrics. As medical director of PeRC, Lou is responsible for ensuring that the interests of both the primary care pediatricians and the researchers are considered within the context of practice-based research. Under his leadership, PeRC was one of only 11 institutions nationally to be awarded “master contractor” status by AHRQ in 2006.
